Welcome to Thornthwaite Design
Website Design and everything in between
Hi, my name is Alicia Thornthwaite and I am a front end web developer hoping to become full stack. Organised, Meticulous, Hardworking and Enthusiastic are words that best describe me. I enjoy creating and designing WordPress (php) and Shopify(Liquid) sites that will enhance your business.
Alicia Thornthwaite is a scientist, front end web developer and co-founder of small business AfroDeity Ltd.
Alicia previously worked as a Drug Surveillance Scientist and Analyst working mainly with NMR, HPLC, GCMS and LCMS instrumentation, with two degrees in Forensic Science.
Her small business AfroDeity Ltd was founded with her mother Joliette, a former headmistress. AfroDeity aims to help small farmers in the Caribbean by bringing healing oils and butters to a new receptive UK audience. AfroDeity combines three passions science, beauty & the rural Caribbean.
Alicia also created a new product line the Luxury ‘Joliette’ Collection made from oils and butters inspired by the Caribbean in honour of her mother.
Alicia has lived and worked in several countries. At sixteen, she was one of two students chosen to go to Ivy League Brown University to study Vertebrate Morphology and Physiology as part of a taster course for Young Aspiring People.
Alicia lived in Madrid, Spain for two years studying for a degree in Organic Chemistry. She transferred to Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to continue her passion for Forensic Toxicology and achieved First Class Honours. She was also awarded a prize for her undergraduate thesis by the Forensic Science Service.
She went to work as a Drugs Analyst at Kings College London and during this time analysed samples from the Olympics and many major sporting events.
She moved back to Cambridgeshire and continued to work in Drug Surveillance at the HorseRacing Forensic Laboratory. She completed her Masters degree with Merit, whilst working full time and juggling a young family. Her main research was in canine toxicology and doping.
